WILLOWBROOK (CBSLA.com) — A suspect Wednesday was fatally shot by Sheriff’s deputies in Willowbrook.

The shooting occurred about 5:50 p.m. in the 2000 block of East Piru Avenue, in an unincorporated area of Willowbrook, near Compton, according to sheriff’s officials.

Deputies attempted to contact a Latino man walking in the area, but he fled.

“After a brief foot pursuit, the suspect turned toward the deputies with a semi-automatic handgun in his hand; at which time a deputy-involved shooting occurred,” Deputy Peter Gomez said.

The unidentified suspect died at the scene and a loaded semi-automatic handgun was recovered.

No deputies were injured.
