Hunt Is On For Suspect Who Stole Weapons From CHP Car In Stevenson Ranch Area

SANTA CLARITA (CBSLA.com) — The hunt is on for a suspect who broke into a California Highway Patrol car in the Stevenson Ranch area and stole weapons and other items.

The incident happened around 2 p.m. Monday, according to CHP Officer Saul Gomez.

The officer said that some of the items were discovered the next day near Central Avenue and 120th Street in South Los Angeles, but wouldn't reveal what exactly was recovered.

The Los Angeles Times, however, reported that two AR-15 semiautomatic rifles, two shotguns, two Smith & Wesson .40-caliber handguns, a bulletproof vest, handcuff keys and an officer's ID badge were taken.

Gomez said investigators are "taking this situation very seriously and we will take every measure to make sure we recover weapons and identify the suspect or suspects."
