Arrest Warrant Issued For Former NFL Receiver Titus Young After Skipping Court Hearing
NEWPORT BEACH (CBSLA.com) — An arrest warrant has been issued for former NFL wide receiver Titus Young skipped a court hearing on Tuesday on charges of burglary and assault on a police officer.
Young posted $50,000 bail and was released from Orange County Jail on June 10, according to court records. He was due in court on Tuesday at the Harbor Justice Center in Newport Beach, but failed to appear. Orange County Superior Court Judge Andre Manssourian then issued a warrant for Young's arrest.
Young is charged with first-degree burglary, attempted first-degree burglary of an inhabited dwelling, and second-degree burglary, all of which are felonies.
Young has also been charged with two counts of assault on a peace officer, as well as two counts of battery on a peace officer, two counts of resisting arrest, and a count of vandalism with reportedly less than $400 in damages.
Young pleaded not guilty on May 24.
One week following his legal trouble in the Riverside County city of Moreno Valley, Young allegedly scuffled with Orange County sheriff's deputies shortly before midnight on May 11, according to sheriff's department spokeswoman Gail Krause.
Deputies responded to a call about a potential residential burglary in the 3700 block of Calle Casino in San Clemente. They found Young outside the home, according to Krause, and a small foot pursuit ensued. The deputies caught up to him and took him into custody following a brief struggle.
Young, 23, acknowledged that he had been in the house prior to the deputies' arrival, but "claimed he was looking for a cousin's house," Krause said.
According to Krause, the residents did not know Young, the former Detroit Lion who was drafted in the second round in 2011. He was cut from the team in February.
Young was arrested twice on May 5 in Moreno Valley, first at 12:01 a.m. after being accused of driving under the influence, and again in the afternoon when he was accused of jumping the fence of an impound lot in order to find his vehicle.
