$50K Reward Offered For Information In Fatal Shooting Of Victorville Man

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Police Tuesday announced a $50,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the suspects responsible for the murder of a 21-year-old man at a convenience store.

De’Jon Ward, 21, was found shot to death in his car around 12:45 p.m. on July 12 near Venice Boulevard and 12th Street in Arlington Heights, the Los Angeles Police Department said.

Ward, of Victorville, was sitting in his vehicle in the parking lot of a 7-Eleven store when the shooter approached him on foot. The man asked Ward where he was from before firing several rounds into the vehicle, police said.

“He wasn’t involved in any criminal activity. He was not armed. He did not become involved in a fight; he was not involved in even as much as an argument in this incident,” Capt. Lillian Carranza said.

The alleged gunman and his accomplice then fled the scene in a silver Nissan Armada, according to surveillance video.

After Ward was shot, he tried to get help and drove onto Venice Boulevard before he crashed his vehicle into an apartment building, police said.

He was declared dead at the scene.

A motive for the shooting was unknown and nothing was taken from the vehicle.

“It could be their child that’s next. If someone knows something, they need to come forward because these people will kill again,” Ward’s mother, Shawanna Soils, said.
