Arrest Made After Ventura Resident's Garage Is Burglarized

VENTURA (CBSLA.com) — A 20-year-old man from Ventura has been arrested on suspicion of prowling and possession of stolen property.

Ventura County police said in a department statement that officers received a 911 call early Sunday morning of a garage burglary in progress in the 4000 block of Maple Street.

"The victim awoke to the sounds of an unknown person rummaging around inside his garage," the statement said.

Upon arriving on scene, officers located a person on a bicycle who they deemed "suspicious" riding in the 100 block of Estates Avenue.

Although they attempted to stop him, he fled, according to police, who located him a short distance away.

The suspect, identified as Brendan Lanigan, was subsequently booked into the Ventura County Main Jail.

At the time of his arrest, police said Lanigan had some of the victim's items in his possession.

Further investigation has revealed that the suspect allegedly gained entry into the victim's garage after police say he removed a garage door opener from an unlocked car on Maple Street.
