Alleged Carjacker Dead After Struggling With Sheriff's Deputies

PERRIS (CBSLA.com) — Authorities said a suspected carjacker has died following a struggle with sheriff's deputies in Perris.

The unidentified suspect died Saturday following a confrontation with deputies just after midnight early Friday morning, according to a sergeant.

Deputies received a call about a carjacking in progress at the intersection of Ramona Expressway and Indian Avenue. When deputies pulled up, the suspect was spotted running in the roadway, Riverside County sheriff's Sgt. Todd Torrenti said.

The suspect refused to comply with orders to stop and a struggle with the deputies ensued, leaving the suspect with injuries that required medical attention. The suspect was allegedly connected to two earlier attempted carjackings, Torrenti said.

The suspect's name was withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Torrenti said the investigation was ongoing and no further information was available.
