Car Theft Suspect Leads Police On 40 Minute Chase Throughout Los Angeles

PANORAMA CITY (CBSLA.com) — Los Angeles police arrested a car theft suspect that led authorities on a 40 minute pursuit throughout Los Angeles early Tuesday morning.

The chase started just before 4:20 a.m. when police tried to pull over a stolen Ford Contour near Laurel Canyon and Ventura boulevards.

The male suspect then lead authorities through Hollywood, downtown and onto the 10 Freeway where he threw an object out of the window.

He eventually made his way onto the 405 northbound and later the 101 Freeway through the valley where his vehicle collided with another car just before 5 a.m. near Coldwater Canyon and Erwin.

The chase then continued, finally coming to a close at 5:03 a.m. when the suspect lost control of the vehicle and spun out. He exited the car and briefly  attempted to flee on foot before he surrendered to police and was arrested.

The man's identity was not released. It was unclear what charges he would face.

Police shut down the 10 Freeway at the 405 to recover the object thrown from the vehicle.
