Van Nuys Resident Fatally Injured In Sherman Oaks Hit-And-Run

SHERMAN OAKS (CBSLA.com) — Authorities Sunday were searching for the driver of a newer model Hyundai sedan in connection with a hit-and-run accident that fatally injured a 22-year-old resident of Van Nuys.

A statement issued by the Los Angeles Police Department's Valley Traffic Division says the accident occurred about 1:45 a.m. on Ventura Boulevard, west of Kester Avenue.

The statement said the silver Hyundai was headed westbound on Ventura Boulevard when it collided with an opened driver's door of a parked Ford Focus.

At the time of the accident, a valet attendant was opening the car door for its owner.

"The Hyundai continued and collided with the left rear of an unattended parked vehicle located directly in front of the Ford Focus," the statement said.

The owner of the Ford was seriously injured and was taken to an area hospital in critical condition.

The victim died Sunday after succumbing to his injuries, according to officials with LAPD's Valley Traffic Division.

The parking valet attendant was not hurt.

Anyone with more information about this case was asked to call Valley Traffic Division Officer Martinez at (818) 644-8032 or Officer Fredo at (818) 644-8037.
