Victim, 25, Identified In Fatal Del Rey Shooting

DEL REY (CBSLA.com) —  Authorities are looking for the gunman who killed a man early Saturday while he was sitting in his car outside a Del Rey home.

The shooting occurred around 12:30 a.m. at Braddock Drive and Berryman Avenue, near the Culver Boulevard Exit of the 405 Freeway, according to Sgt. Robin Richards of the LAPD.

The 25-year-old victim's family heard gunshots shortly after he walked outside, Richards said. They went out to find him slumped over in his vehicle.

Relatives identified the victim as Francisco Ayala, a Culver City resident. He worked at the Taco Bell around the corner from where he was killed, but wasn't scheduled to work Friday night.

Ayala had moved from Mexico six years ago in search of a better life and didn't have many friends, his family said.

Investigators believe the suspect walked up and fired several shots at Ayala, who then crashed into some parked cars as he apparently tried to flee.

Detectives don't suspect Ayala was a gang member, Richards said.

Authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident to call the West Bureau Homicide Division at (213) 382-9470.  Tips can be left anonymously at (800) 222-TIPS.
