SUN VALLEY (CBSLA.com) — A man and his dog were killed Wednesday morning after being hit by a Metro bus.

The accident happened around 10:40 a.m. in the 8100 block of Webb Avenue in Sun Valley, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Jose Moran, a friend of the victim, told CBS2/KCAL9 that his friend was playing fetch with his dog right before the accident.

"When he threw the ball, it hit the wall of this church right here and the ball bounced into the street. The dog, Chico, he went for the ball and my homie went for the ball too . . . and the bus, it was coming full speed, and it just took my homie out."

A witness said the bus driver tried to swerve to miss the victim, whose name was not released.

There were no passengers on board the bus at the time of the collision.

The accident was under investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department and the Metropolitan Transportation Authority.
