Silver Fire Near Banning 100 Percent Contained
BANNING (CBSLA.com) — The Silver Fire, which burned 20,292 acres near Banning, was fully contained Monday.
Remaining evacuation orders were lifted for the communities of Poppet Flats, Mt. Edna, Silent Valley and Twin Pines. The Silent Valley RV Park, however, was still shut down.
Highway 243 also remained closed from north of Twin Pines Road to Wesley Street in Banning due to road damage.
The blaze, which broke out last Wednesday, injured 11 firefighters and 1 civilian and destroyed 48 structures.
The cost of the firefight was estimated to be nearly $10 million.
On Friday, Gov. Jerry Brown declared a state of emergency in Riverside County.
The cause of the blaze continues to be under investigation.
