3 Killed, 2 Injured In 4 Shootings In Pomona

POMONA (CBSLA.com) — Three people were killed and two others were wounded in four separate shootings in the Pomona area, authorities said Sunday.

Lt. Eddie Vazquez of the Pomona Police Department says the first fatality was reported at 9:29 p.m. Saturday on Lexington Avenue west of Garey Avenue.

The victim, identified as 45-year-old Pomona resident Jose Cerda, was struck by gunfire while was riding his bike.

According to Vazquez, a suspect vehicle had pulled alongside the victim and fired several rounds. Cerda was pronounced dead at the scene. A description of the suspect vehicle was not available, Vazquez said.

About 11:30 p.m., a second fatal shooting was reported in a north alleyway of 349 Orchid Lane, police said. That victim was identified by Pomona police as 24-year-old Isais Garcia Lopez, 24, of Ontario.

In a department statement, police said Lopez was walking with another individual when they were shot by unknown suspects. Lopez was struck multiple times by gunfire and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The second victim, identified as an 18-year-old resident of Pomona, was wounded but managed to run to a nearby courtyard and locate officers.

That victim was treated at the scene by first responders but was eventually airlifted to a hospital where he underwent surgery. His current condition was not known.

A third shooting followed at 1:57 a.m. in the 2200 block of Canterbury Avenue.

Police said officers were dispatched to the area following a report of gunfire. Upon arriving on scene, officers say they located numerous shell casings in and around the street.

In addition, police said two vehicles had been struck by gunfire and a victim was found in the area suffering from a gunshot wound. That individual sought medical treatment on his own at an area hospital, according to police.

About an hour later at 2:52 a.m., a fourth shooting occurred in the 1700 block of Benedict Way in Pomona.

The deceased was identified as 29-year-old Angel Bravo of Pomona. Police said Bravo had just left to go to the store and was standing near his vehicle when a car pulled up near him and opened fire.

Bravo, who was wounded in the upper torso, was pronounced dead at the scene. The suspect vehicle in that shooting was described as a white compact vehicle.

Officials said the incidents do not appear to be related.
