MISSION HILLS (CBSLA.com) — Authorities Saturday said one man was killed in a collision on the Ronald Reagan (118) Freeway in Mission Hills.

The deceased was headed west on the thoroughfare in a black Acura when investigators say he lost control on the 405 Freeway south transition.

At that point, investigators say the car traveled up an embankment and slammed into a sign pole.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. He was 25 years old.

Exactly what caused him to lose control remains under investigation.

“We’re still determining whether or not alcohol was a factor and trying to determine why the vehicle did leave the roadway in the first place,” said CHP Officer Brandon Wright.

Two lanes of the westbound 118 Freeway and the 405 southbound transition road were closed for several hours while authorities investigated.
