Report: Suspect In Death Of Fontana Dad Commits Suicide

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A suspect arrested in connection with the murder of a Fontana father of two has committed suicide, according to a report Thursday.

Richard Gonzalez of Fontana was found unresponsive, hanging from a bed sheet on Wednesday, according to a statement issued by the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner Department.

"Deputies entered the cell and removed the sheet from his neck and began CPR," the statement said. "Facility medical personnel responded and began treating Gonzalez until paramedics arrived and transported Gonzalez to San Antonio Community Hospital."

The statement said Gonzalez was pronounced dead at 7:15 p.m. No foul play was suspected, authorities said.

Fontana police arrested Gonzalez on Tuesday along with 18-year-old Edward Morales, in connection with the murder of 40-year-old Alejandro Padilla.

Padilla was found in July inside a burning vehicle near a public park in the 1000 block of Etiwanda Street in Rialto, about six miles from his home on Beechcraft Avenue.

Morales' mother was also arrested as an accessory to murder, according to police.
