Police Arrest 20-Year-Old Man For Inciting Huntington Beach Riot

HUNTINGTON BEACH (CBSLA.com) — Police have arrested a 20-year-old man in connection with a large disturbance in downtown Huntington Beach last week that required the response of approximately 250 police officers.

Shortly after the conclusion of the Vans US Open of Surfing on July 28, numerous fights, acts of vandalism, thefts, burglary and several arson fires broke out in the area. Hundreds of officers were called to the scene to control the crowd.

Investigators say information provided by the public helped to identify Eliyau Rueven Jackson as one of the participants who damaged newspaper stands and City of Huntington Beach Public Work's Trucks.

Jackson turned himself in to detectives from the Huntington Beach Police Department.

He was arrested for felony vandalism, inciting a riot and refusing to disperse when ordered.

Jackson was booked into the Huntington Beach City Jail pursuant to an arrest warrant for the above listed charges on $20,000 bail.

Follow-up investigation is ongoing regarding crimes that were committed during the disturbance.
