Culver City To Mark 1st-Ever 'National Night Out'
CULVER CITY (CBSLA.com) — Residents of Culver City were set to join their neighbors throughout the Southland for the city's first "National Night Out" on Tuesday to mark the event's 30th anniversary.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, Los Angeles Police Department, and almost all police agencies cities across the U.S. will gather with their respective community members for block parties, cookouts, parades, exhibits, flashlight walks, and contests in a nationwide effort to get to know one another and improve neighborhood safety.
Beginning as early as 4 p.m. in Marina del Rey, West Hollywood, Echo Park, Burbank and various other communities, residents are urged to turn on their porch lights and spend the evening outside with neighbors and law enforcement officers, who will be out in extra patrols for neighborhood "meet-and-greets".
L.A. County Sheriff Lee Baca told KNX 1070 NEWSRADIO it's critical for police to be seen as part of the community.

"It's all about participating with the public," Baca said. "Thirty-four million people across the United States will spend their time with us in law enforcement, sending crime prevention messages and also drug prevention messages."
The Culver City event is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. at Lindberg Park.
