Homicide Detectives Continue To Search For Leads In Murder Of 17-Year-Old

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Homicide detectives continue to hunt for leads in the July 30 slaying of an unarmed teen who was walking with friends in Compton.

The shooting took place in the 1300 block of Chester Avenue about 6:10 p.m.

Moments before the shooting, the 17-year-old victim -- not known to be a gang member -- was walking with friends when they were approached by two male suspects walking towards them from the opposite direction. Apparently without provocation, one of the two suspects pulled out a handgun, pointed it at the victim and shot him in the torso.

The suspects fled the scene on foot.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Anyone with information about the murder is encouraged to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500.
