Caught On Tape: 'Girl Next Door' Steals 2 Silk Dresses

SANTA MONICA (CBSLA.com) — Police are looking for a shoplifter who the store owner described as "the girl next door."

Natalie Corrado, the owner of the Cristina Lynn boutique in Santa Monica, said she couldn't believe her eyes when she saw her shoplifter seemed so casual.

The shoplifter stole two dresses valued at $185 each.

The suspect is described as white, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches tall, with brown hair and a slender build.

The weary store owner, Natalie Corrado, said this theft was a final straw. She's owned the store on Montana Avenue for more than two years, but she says, of late, she's been hit hard by shoplifters. She had some jewelry also pilfered but those thefts were not clear enough on video to give to police

Of the recent clothes thief, Corrado says, "She seemed very easy-going, she seemed like a very nice girl."

Corrado said the suspect wasn't very talkative, but she was very thorough.

"She looked at every piece," said Corrado.

The woman reportedly dropped a garment, and when Corrado turned to help another customer she said the woman made her move.

"She just opened her purse and put the dresses in, like nothing," said Corrado. "I can't believe this person had the audacity to do that. The courage. It takes a lot of courage to do that."

After reviewing her security footage, Corrado says she was disturbed.

"I literally had goosebumps," she said.
