COMPTON (CBSLA.com) — A 22-year-old man’s legs were severed after he was struck by, and then trapped underneath, a freight train in Compton Wednesday afternoon.

The train, which was traveling northbound along Alameda Street, hit the victim at Myrrh Street around 4:05 p.m.

The Compton Fire Department was able to free the pedestrian from one of the train’s tanker cars less than half an hour later.
