Fire Damages Restaurant On Third Street Promenade

SANTA MONICA (CBSLA.com) — A fire damaged the Yankee Doodles restaurant on the Third Street Promenade Monday morning.

Firefighters were sent to the restaurant at 5:03 a.m. and found flames in the kitchen, said Santa Monica fire Battalion Chief Carl Bjerke.

The main part of the fire was extinguished in about 15 minutes, however, grease fuelled flames spread into the ducting system and it wasn't until after 7 a.m. that the blaze was fully put out.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. A damage estimate was not immediately available, although officials said pre-1933-era building appeared to be structurally sound.

No injuries were reported.
