Motorcyclist Killed During High-Speed Chase In Newbury Park

MOORPARK (CBSLA.com) — A motorcyclist was killed after losing control and crashing into a wall during a high-speed pursuit in Ventura County, authorities said Sunday.

The fatal collision occurred about 10:55 p.m. Saturday at Rancho Dos Vientos Drive and Lynn Road in Newbury Park.

Prior to the crash, investigators said authorities attempted to pull over the motorcyclist on the 101 Freeway for speeding.

The cyclist reportedly exited the freeway and even stopped briefly before heading south on Lynn Road, authorities told CBS2's Joy Benedict.

During the brief three-minute pursuit, authorities said the motorcycle reached speeds in upward of 100 miles per hour before the man lost control and slammed into a cement wall.

Video taken at the crash scene shows the bike in multiple fragments.

Officers with the California Highway Patrol administered CPR, but the unidentified man succumbed to his injuries.

"He lost control of his vehicle just west of Rancho Dos Vientos and went through the fence, possibly hit a telephone pole and succumbed to his injuries," said CHP Sgt. Steven Curley.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. He was identified as a 34-year-old man from Simi Valley but his name was not released, KNX 1070's Ed Mertz reported.

It's not clear if alcohol or drugs played a factor in the crash.

An investigation is under way.
