Body Found Inside Burned Out Car Is That Of Missing Fontana Man

FONTANA (CBSLA.com) — A body found inside a burned out car in Rialto has been identified as that of a missing Fontana man, coroner's officials confirmed Saturday.

Alejandro Padilla went missing early Friday morning after apparently being attacked in the driveway of his Fontana home.

The 40-year-old father of two and husband was heading to work when an apparent violent confrontation ensued. Both he and his vehicle were both initially unaccounted.

By Friday evening, authorities had recovered a body inside Padilla's 2009 Nissan Versa, which had reportedly been set on fire.

The vehicle was found in a public park in the 1000 block of Etiwanda Street, about 6 miles from his home.

"After the fire was extinguished, the body of Alejandro Padilla, a 40 year old Fontana resident, was found in the vehicle," the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner wrote in a department statement.

The statement says an autopsy is expected to be conducted to determine the cause of death.

An investigation is under way.
