Armed Woman Arrested Following 6-Hour Standoff In Westlake District Apartment

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — An armed woman was arrested early Friday morning following a more than six-hour standoff at a Westlake District apartment where she fired shots at police officers.

The unidentified suspect was taken into custody around 5: 30 a.m., the Los Angeles Police Department said.

The standoff began around 11 p.m. Thursday when a male resident of an apartment building, located at 1723 Westlake Boulevard, called authorities to report that a woman broke into his unit, officials said.

The man, who fled his apartment, told police that he didn't know the suspect.

Officers responded to the scene to investigate a possible burglary and encountered the woman who refused to exit the unit and fired at police.

"The suspect was armed with a weapon, she exited the building and an officer-involved shooting occurred," Cmdr. John Sherman said.

She suffered a gunshot wound to the leg and was hospitalized in stable condition.

The five-story apartment complex, as well as several surrounding blocks, were evacuated and blocked off during the standoff.

A motive for the situation was unknown.
