SAN BERNARDINO (CBSLA.com) — Police are investigating a burning swastika that was placed in the middle of a San Bernardino street early Sunday morning.
Resident Dawn Bradley said her neighbors found the wooden swastika on the 2800 block of Sepulveda Avenue around 1 a.m. after they saw flames and smelled gasoline.
“The neighbor came over and said, ‘Dawn, did you see what happened or hear anything?’ Because police, I guess, were going up and down the street…and just dumbfounded,” she said.
An unidentified African American resident, who did not want to appear on camera, said she woke up to find the symbol in front of her home. She told KCAL9’s Tom Wait that the culprit failed in his or her message of hate.
“No one is going to run us off from our house. We’re good people. We don’t bother nobody. This is a good neighborhood,” she said.
The resident said she’s concerned, however, about her children.
“My kids come first. Of course. Of course. And my grandson,” she said.
The woman said it doesn’t matter who was targeted because the neighbors have each others back.
“We all look out for each other over here. Everybody just mind their business. We’re just one big happy family over here,” she said.
The investigation is ongoing.
