Long Beach Woman In Custody After Threatening To Kill Husband With Hatchet

LONG BEACH (CBSLA.com) — A woman was in custody Monday after allegedly threatening to kill her husband with a hatchet, police said.

Melanie Elaine McGhee, 33, was booked Sunday morning on suspicion of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon.

Officers arrived around 11 p.m. Saturday at the apartment in the 1100 block of Walnut Avenue.

They allegedly witnessed McGhee standing over her husband preparing to attack him. When she refused to put the weapon down, officers shot at her, officials said.

The suspect was not hit and immediately surrendered after the shot was fired, according to police.

McGhee was being held at the Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood. Her bail was set at $500,000.

The officer-involved shooting was under investigation by Long Beach homicide detectives, officials said.
