Multi-Car Wreck Leaves 1 Dead, 3 Hurt In West LA

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Authorities Sunday said a multi-vehicle collision on a busy residential street in West Los Angeles left one person dead and three others hospitalized.

The accident at the northwest corner of La Cienega Boulevard and Cashio Street occurred about 11:30 p.m., according to investigators.

Investigators say the victims were standing at the corner of the street when they were struck by a car that reportedly jumped the curb and landed at the side of Flower Villa, a 24-hour assisted
living facility.

Damage to the building was visible, including a broken window and smashed up flower bed.

Prior to the crash, police say the driver of a Ford Mustang was speeding north on La Cienega Boulevard when it struck two vehicles. The force of that crash reportedly sent one of those cars onto the curb, eventually hitting the four pedestrians.

One of the pedestrians was pronounced dead at the scene. Police believe he was a transient living in the community.

The other three victims were rushed to area hospitals. One of the surviving pedestrians was reported to be in critical condition. The other two were listed in serious condition.

Police say the driver of the black Mustang fled the scene on foot but was arrested a short time later. The other two drivers suffered minor injuries. They were treated and released, according to CBS2's Joy Benedict. Neither were cited.

No further information was provided.
