Suspect Who Allegedly Shot San Bernardino Co. Deputy To Be Arraigned

SAN BERNARDINO (CBSLA.com) — A 33-year-old man who allegedly shot and wounded a San Bernardino County Sheriff's deputy is expected in court Thursday.

Two court services deputies were serving an eviction notice around 10:15 a.m. Tuesday at a home in the 1400 block of East Date Street when 33-year-old Miguel Alvarez allegedly approached the patrol car in a vehicle and fired, San Bernardino police said.

One deputy suffered a gunshot wound and was transported to a local hospital.

Alvarez was taken into custody and charged with attempted murder of a peace officer and possession of a firearm by a felon with priors.

"Any attempt on the life of a peace officer has our highest priority," District Attorney Michael Ramos said in a statement. "As I said when I created our Crimes Against Peace Officers Unit a few months ago, this type of behavior will not be tolerated in this county, and we will do everything possible to prevent, prosecute and punish those who attack our law enforcement officers."

Alvarez is scheduled to be arraigned via video at 12:30 p.m.

If convicted, he faces 40 years and eight months to life in state prison.
