4 Injured When 2 Boats Collide In Newport Beach

NEWPORT BEACH (CBSLA.com) — Four people were injured Sunday evening when two boats collided in Newport Beach, according to authorities.

The Newport Beach Fire Department said they responded to the accident with six rescue units.

The accident was reported just after 9:30 p.m.

Four people were checked out and later taken to local hospitals in Newport Beach and Mission Viejo. The injuries ranged from cuts and lacerations, breathing difficulties and a possible fracture. At least one patient lost consciousness. Three other people were evaluated for possible injury.

One of the boats was reportedly a 25-foot cigarette-type vehicle. Deputies said the cigarette boat was traveling at a high rate of speed when it struck a smaller boat.

It was unclear if all the injured were on the same boat.
