Toddler Shot After Mom's SUV Gets Caught Up In Gunfire In South LA

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com)  — A toddler was shot in the hand Thursday night after her mother's sports utility vehicle was caught up in gunfire in Leimert Park.

The incident happened in the area of 43rd Place and Eighth Avenue around 11:55 p.m., according to Sgt. Daniel Ellerson of the Los Angeles Police Department's Southwest Station.

The victim's mother told authorities she was driving with two children when she heard seven gunshots.

She soon realized a round hit her 2-year-old daughter in the hand, said Ellerson.

The child was transported to a hospital in stable condition.

The investigation is ongoing.
