INDUSTRY (CBSLA.com) — A series of 55-hour weekend closures on the Pomona (60) Freeway in Industry will begin Friday night, possibly causing traffic delays in the San Gabriel Valley.
The closures, which Caltrans calls “Summer Slam,” will affect lanes in both directions between Nogales Street and Fullerton Road for pavement rehabilitation work, officials said.
Three westbound lanes will be shut down from 10 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Monday, and the entire westbound side of the freeway will be closed from 1 a.m. to 5 a.m. on Saturday and Monday. The closures will continue for an additional three non-consecutive weekends through Aug. 26.
“The Summer Slam is about safety, and we want to make sure the motor republic is able to get to where they need to get safely,” Peter Jones, Public Affairs Officer for Caltrans District 7, told KNX1070.
The other three planned closures are:
- Friday, July 26, at 10 p.m. – Monday, July 29 at 5 a.m. two westbound lanes will be closed
- Friday, Aug. 9, at 10 p.m. – Monday, August 12 at 5 a.m. three eastbound lanes will be closed
- Friday, Aug. 23, at 10 p.m. – Monday, August 26 at 5a.m. two eastbound lanes will be closed
- Full freeway closures will be in effect during those weekends from 1 a.m. to 5 a.m. on Saturdays and 1 a.m. to 5 a.m. on Mondays for k-rail installation.
Closures are subject to weather conditions and could change, according to officials.
