San Dimas Teacher’s Aide Accused Of Having Baby With Student, 16

SAN DIMAS (CBSLA.com) — A San Dimas teacher’s aide has been arrested for allegedly having a sexual relationship with a student who fathered her child, authorities announced Thursday.

Mandy Morales, 30, has been charged with a single count of unlawful sexual intercourse. She was arrested Wednesday after DNA tests confirmed a former student fathered her child, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said.

Morales, who was released on $50,000 bail, allegedly engaged in the affair in 2011 while working at Canyon View School, which is part of the McKinley Children’s Center.

“The Canyon View School is a Western Association of Schools and Colleges accredited school focused on providing an education to children with special needs,” according to its website.

“We are aware that this is an active law enforcement investigation and we are not able to comment except that we have been fully cooperative with law enforcement and that Ms. Morales is no longer an employee of Canyon View School. The protection, privacy care, and safety of the children we serve is our highest priority, and we shall continue our cooperation with law enforcement authorities. Canyon View School has an excellent reputation for providing the highest level of education to students, and, of course this will continue. We also ask that you respect the privacy and dignity of our children, parents, and staff throughout this process,” McKinley Children’s Center CEO Al Mason said in a statement.

The affair was uncovered in December after a school employee found Morales’ journal, which detailed her relationship with the boy, who was 16 when the affair began, officials said. He was 17 when the child was born and is now 19 years old.

Authorities believe the father of the child is Morales’ only alleged victim, but acknowledge there may be others.

Earlier this month, a Redlands high school teacher who also allegedly gave birth to a baby fathered by a teen student was arrested on several sex-related counts involving minors.
