Former Marine Sentenced To 10 Years To Life For Arson Spree

VAN NUYS (CBSLA.com) — A former Marine was sentenced Thursday to 10 years to life for setting a string of fires in North Hollywood in 2011.

Kurt Kaye Billie, 36, pleaded no contest March 5 to two counts of arson.

He was sentenced Thursday by Van Nuys Superior Court Judge Michael Jesic.

Billie admitted to setting 21 vehicles and motor homes ablaze between July 21-Aug. 2, 2011.

As a result of his plea deal, 18 additional counts were dropped.

Billie also admitted that he had a previous arson conviction, according to Deputy DA Sean Carney. In 2001, Billie was convicted of arson in Okinawa, Japan, where he was then stationed.
