Nearly 500 People Arrested For DUI During Holiday Weekend In LA County
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Nearly 500 people were arrested for allegedly driving under the influence during the holiday weekend period that started Thursday and ended Saturday at 12:01 a.m., according to authorities.
The 490 arrests were made through local routine traffic enforcement and special "Avoid the 100 DUI" deployment areas in Los Angeles County, said officials.
Last year, during the same period, there were 343 arrests for DUI, according to a press release from LA County.
Funding for the "Avoid" program was made possible by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
