Deputies Fatally Shoot Suspect They Say Aimed His Car At Them

JURUPA VALLEY (CBSLA.com) — Sheriff's deputies fatally shot a suspect they said aimed his car at them in Jurupa Valley Sunday morning.

Authorities said a sheriff's deputy recognized a driver -- around 3:15 a.m. -- as a man who had an active warrant.

The deputy approached the suspect in the 3600 block of Valley Way, according to Riverside County sheriff's Sgt. Lisa McConnell.

An additional deputy was called for back-up.

Both deputies were speaking to the suspect when he allegedly put his vehicle in drive and accelerated toward one of them, prompting the shooting, according to McConnell.

The man, described by coroner's officials as a 29-year-old Norco resident, was taken to Riverside Community Hospital.

The suspect's name was withheld pending notification of next of kin, McConnell said.

It was not immediately known why the suspect had a warrant.
