LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — The Automobile Club of Southern California Thursday will offer free rides to intoxicated drivers during the Fourth of July holiday.

The service, called Tipsy Tow, offers intoxicated drivers and their cars a free tow home up to seven miles until midnight.

"It's super easy, all they need to do is call us at (800)400-4AAA (4222)," Elaine Beno, a spokeswoman for the Auto Club, told KNX1070.

The program is available in 13 Southern California counties.

Drivers are limited to a one-way, one-time ride and vehicles will only be towed to the driver's residence. Regular tow service rates apply for anything longer than seven miles.

A recent survey found that 14 percent of motorists admitted to driving drunk at least once in the past year, according to the Auto Club.
