Man Whose Skull Was Bashed In During Bar Brawl Wins $58M Settlement
TORRANCE (CBSLA.com) — A 43-year-old man who suffered severe brain damage when his skull was bashed in during a 2010 bar brawl has won a $58 million settlement.
A Torrance jury found that an untrained security guard beat up Antonio Chaj, who previously worked as a house painter.
The guard hit Chaj over the head with a baton at least eight times and kicked him in the head six more time.
However, his lawyer says that wasn't the worst of the attack.
"Then he took his head, and in the words of the woman who worked at the bar, 'he smashed it into the ground four times.' This is concrete," attorney Fred Sayre said.
Chaj suffered such severe brain damage that he can no longer speak.
