There are a lot of truly tremendous fine dining options in southern California, and you could easily enjoy a new amazing culinary delight every night of the week for a full year without repeating anything. However, when it comes to ranking those dining experiences, only a handful truly rise to the top. Matsuhisa Restaurant is one of the best spots for amazingly delicious sushi, created by master Sushi Chef Nobu Matsuhisa.
Known simply as Nobu, Chef Nobu Matsuhisa is known all over the world as the owner of Nobu, Matsuhisa and Ubon restaurants. Japanese-born Nobu received his education in Tokyo as a classically trained sushi chef, but he found inspiration in Peru and was challenged by the blend of culture and regional ingredients. It was that blend that worked to create his signature style, known today as Nobu Style. His flagship restaurant, Matsuhisa, opened in Beverly Hills in 1987 and has been named one of the top destination restaurants in the world by The New York Times. It was the success of this initial restaurant that launched the huge line of fabulous Nobu restaurants throughout the world.
An evening at Matsuhisa is a study in quality. Everything is simply the best. The menu is actually quite large and it can be a little overwhelming. It is best to stick with what Nobu does best, and go with the freshest sashimi and other chef specialties. The halibut sashimi, toro sushi, yellowtail sashimi, and toro tartare are all fantastic choices. Also, save some room for dessert, as Matsuhisa is known to produce amazing shaved ice with perfectly sweet syrups.
