Elderly Man, Air Conditioning Repairman Attacked By Pit Bull In Murrieta

MURRIETA (CBSLA.com) — Two men, including an 80-year-old, were mauled Friday by a pit bull mix in Murrieta.

An air conditioning repairman was attacked around 8:50 a.m. at a residence in the 39000 block of Salinas Drive.

The canine then went after his owner's elderly father.

An unidentified neighbor said he heard the older man's screams and called 911.

"He was calling out for help, but I could not make out what he was saying," the man told KCAL9's Adrianna Weingold.

The elderly man was bitten in the stomach, twice in the arms, which punctured arteries, and the back of his knees. He was taken to a local hospital in critical condition.

Sheriff's deputies arrived on scene and shot the dog at least two times before he ran off.

"I saw the dog come out and (go) after the officer and the officer had to take aggressive action," said the neighbor.

Animal control officers found the dog a couple blocks away and impounded it.

Neighbors said the same dog attacked another man and his dog on Nov. 20, 2012.

The dog's owner, whose identity was not released, signed a consent form to have the canine euthanized.
