Volunteers Transform Disabled Veteran's Home In Corona

CORONA (CBSLA.com) — A team of volunteers is spending Thursday transforming the home of a disabled veteran in Corona.

A crew from The Home Depot was joined by volunteers from Habitat For Humanity Riverside at the residence of Jordan Sisco, who sustained injuries from an explosive device while serving in Afghanistan.

More than 50 volunteers constructed a first-floor bedroom, installed hard surface flooring and created a bathroom consistent with standards outlined by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

The project is part of The Home Depot Foundation's $80-million initiative to help U.S. military veterans with critical housing needs.

Since its start in 2002, The Home Depot Foundation has given more than $340 million to nonprofit organizations dedicated to improving homes and lives.

Habitat For Humanity is an international nonprofit dedicated to "partnership housing." Those in need of housing work "side by side with volunteers to build simple, decent houses" using donated materials and funds. The houses are built at no profit and no interest is charged on the loans.
