The high court Wednesday also struck down a provision of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), a federal law that denied tax, health and retirement benefits to married gay couples.
It's a supremely wonderful day for equality. Prop 8 is over, and so is DOMA. Congratulations everyone. And I mean everyone.—

Actors Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard, who decided to delay their wedding until same-sex marriage was legalized in California, used Twitter to announce their impending nuptials.
Opponents of same-sex marriage also took to Twitter, with many of their criticisms of today’s rulings taking aim at whether the Supreme Court should have had either case in the first place.
