Broken A/C At LAX Causes Passenger Discomfort

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Travelers to Southern California walked into a hot and stuffy terminal at Los Angeles International Airport where the air conditioning broke on the first day of summer.

Airport spokeswoman Nancy Castles says the air conditioning was broken in Terminal 1 from about 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Friday.

The failure was caused by a construction problem relating to a utility upgrade.

Large fans were placed around the airport but the terminal was packed with passengers.

Castles says Friday marks the first day of peak travel season for LAX, now that school is out in many places.

Terminal 1 serves Southwest Airlines and U.S. Airways passengers.
