UC Irvine Ranked 5th In World For Best Colleges Under 50 Years Old

IRVINE (CBSLA.com) — The University of California Irvine has been ranked the fifth best college in the world for schools under 50 years old.

The London-based Times Higher Education magazine bestowed the honor on UCI, which was established in 1965.

"The One Hundred Under Fifty" ranking provides "a glimpse into the future, showcasing not those institutions with centuries of history, but the rising stars which show great potential," the magazine said.

UCI was the only American university to be ranked in the top 10 globally for young schools.

Po Hung University of Science and Technology in South Korea (27 years old) came in at number one, followed by Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne in Switzerland (44 years old), the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (42 years old) and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (22 years old).

The University of California, Santa Cruz; the University of Texas at Dallas, and the University of Illinois at Chicago rounded out the 20 schools.
