PICO RIVERA (CBSLA.com) — Investigators said Friday that alcohol and drugs were not believed to be a factor in a head-on crash that killed three people, including two teens in Pico Rivera.
The accident happened around 8:40 p.m. near San Gabriel River Parkway and Rose Hills Road, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said.
A 22-year-old man was driving a Honda Civic with several juvenile passengers when it crossed into southbound lanes and collided with a Nissan Sentra.
Three children riding in the back seat were ejected, officials said.
The driver and two 13-year-old boys were killed. The third child ejected from the vehicle was hospitalized in critical condition.
Their identities were not released.
“I saw bodies everywhere and I was just trying to help the kids. I stayed with one, he was breathing, but by the time they got here, he stopped breathing,” witness Albert Delgado said.
“It looked horrible, something you don’t want to see,” another witness told CBS2.
A fifth female passenger in the Honda Civic was hospitalized in critical condition.
Two women in the Sentra were both hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries, officials said.
The cause of the accident is under investigation.
