Juvenile Detained In Riverside County Fire

RIVERSIDE (AP) — Authorities say a juvenile has been held for questioning after a fire burned 40 acres of dry brush in Riverside.

Riverside Deputy Fire Chief Mike Esparza tells the Press-Enterprise newspaper the blaze sparked Friday is "suspicious."

Investigators talked to a boy who appeared to be about 13. Officials wouldn't say what the boy told them. The fire is 75 percent contained.

Sheriff's deputies recued three people from a hill north of the University of California, Riverside campus.

About 30 miles to the east, a fire in the San Bernardino National Forest near Banning has charred more than five square miles of brush and dead trees.

That blaze, burning since Sunday, is 45 percent contained and no homes are threatened.
