Half-Naked Man Rescued From High-Powered Transmission Tower In NoHo
NORTH HOLLYWOOD (CBSLA.com) —A half-naked man was rescued from a high-powered transmission tower in North Hollywood Friday night.
The unidentified man climbed to the top of the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power tower at Califa Street and Whitnall Highway around 5 p.m. and sat, bounced and stretched for several hours while a large crowd of spectators gathered below.
"It's incredible. It's nothing we've ever seen here before," a woman told KCAL9's Cristy Fajardo.
The fire department set up an inflated rescue cushion for the shirtless man to fall down on and the DWP rerouted the tower's power.
In addition, the Los Angeles Police Department sent out the SWAT team and snipers in order to get the man to come to the ground.
At one point, police tried to coax him down with promises of a warm shower.
SWAT officers finally went up to the man and offered him a blanket around 9 p.m. Authorities said that's all it took for him to give up his perch.
The man was checked out by doctors and will be arrested for trespassing.
