ONTARIO (CBSLA.com) — Authorities Friday said a suspected intoxicated driver in his 20s slammed into a sports utility vehicle while allegedly trying to flee a DUI checkpoint in Ontario.
The incident occurred around 8:30 p.m. at Grove Avenue and Philadelphia Street, about a mile from the checkpoint located at Grove and Belmont Street.
Police said the man in a white van ran a nearby red light before hitting the SUV.
The suspect tried to run away, but was subsequently placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence, among other charges.
Officials said the SUV’s driver, identified as a man in his 50s, was not seriously injured.
