3 Killed, Including 2 Children, In High-Speed, Head-On Crash In Pico Rivera

PICO RIVERA (CBSLA.com) — Three people, including two children, were killed in a head-on collision in Pico Rivera Thursday night, a sheriff's sergeant says.

Sgt. Rudy Ramos told City News Service two vehicles crashed near San Gabriel River Parkway and Rose Hills Parkway at approximately 8:45 p.m.

Ramos said two children who were passengers in one of the vehicles were ejected upon impact and pronounced dead at the scene.

The deceased children were aged 9 and 11. A third child, also aged 11, is believed to have survived the crash. That child's condition remains unclear.

A 20-year-old man believed to be the driver of one of the cars was also among those killed.

Ramos said a female front passenger in that vehicle has been hospitalized. That survivor, whose name has not been released, remains in critical condition.

Two adult females in the other vehicle were in stable condition.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.

Investigators say one of the vehicles was moving at an excessively high speed when the collision occurred.

They do not yet know if drugs or alcohol played a factor.
