It was the home to more western films than the states of Colorado and Arizona combined, and it is located right in the heart of Southern California. From the 1920s and even occasionally still today, Paramount Ranch has been the setting for so many westerns and cowboy flicks that you are sure to recognize some of the buildings and décor. The best part? The ranch is open to the public, and you can bring the whole family to walk around this famous property, have a picnic and hike the local trails.

Films as old as 1927’s “Avalanche or The Rough Riders” were some of the first movies to be shot on location at Paramount Ranch, and through the years its seen some very big names. “A Farewell to Arms,” “Shanghai Express,” “The Last Outpost,” “Beau Geste,” “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer,” “The Love Bug,” and “Herbie Rides Again” are just some of the big titles that were filmed at this scenic location. More recently, it was home for the television shows “Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman,” “Charlie’s Angels,” “CHIPs,” and “The Dukes of Hazard,” as well as the films “Van Helsing,” “Norbit,” “The Lake House,” and “Flintsone’s Viva Rock Vegas.” Yes, chances are, one step into this great little town and you’ll immediately see something you recognize.

Today, you can visit the town and stroll through the old-west style buildings, re-enact your own scenes and take a trip through movie history. There are plenty of picnic tables around, so bring a lunch and enjoy spending time with the family at such an iconic location. You can also explore the many different hiking trails that all branch out from the main town area.

If you can plan a visit in early May, you may just wander into the annual Topanga Banjo Fiddle Contest that takes place here, with lots of live banjo music, cowboy storytelling, arts and crafts and of course, plenty of food. In October you can enjoy another festival – the Calabasas Pumpkin Festival, also with lots of food and crafts and plenty of live entertainment to enjoy.

Clearly a visit to Paramount Ranch is the perfect way to enjoy a sunny day in California, so you won’t want to miss out on this fun location. Make sure to head to the Ranch in your 2014 CLS63 AMG Coupe from Mercedes-Benz of Encino. It is the perfect car for an elegant and comfortable drive to such an iconic destination.
