Boy Detained After Witness Mistakes BB Gun For Rifle
SAN PEDRO (CBSLA.com) — An underage boy was detained Tuesday night after a witness mistakenly told police he was walking around with a rifle on Terminal Island, which is located off the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach in San Pedro.
LA Port Police, along with the Los Angeles Police Department and SWAT members, responded to a call of a suspect with a weapon at the corner of Cannery and Barracuda streets.
During the search for the alleged gunman, authorities immediately sheltered up to 40 employees at a nearby industrial complex as a precaution.
Officials eventually questioned a juvenile who matched the witness's description of the suspect.
The young man, however, claimed he was only in possession of a BB gun.
Police later verified his story and the boy was released.
