Man Accused Of Punching Pregnant Woman In South LA Robbery

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A 19-year-old Lawndale man faced charges Monday for the alleged assault and robbery of
a pregnant woman in South Los Angeles.

Christian McCraw, 19, allegedly approached the victim outside of Lawndale Liquor at 16201 Hawthorne Boulevard on May 23 at 3:00 p.m., according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's South Los Angeles Station.

McCraw punched the victim in the face and forcefully pulled her necklace from her neck, deputies said. He then ran east on 162nd Street with the stolen necklace and out of view.

Deputies searched the area for the suspect and learned that he ran into a friend's residence in the 4700 block of 162nd Street. After entering the residence, the suspect quickly got undressed and pretended that he had been sleeping.

Deputies were able to detain McCraw for the robbery. The suspect was positively identified by the victim as being the person that assaulted her and stole her necklace.

Deputies recovered the stolen necklace from inside the residence, along with the clothing that the suspect was wearing when he committed the robbery.

The suspect was arrested and transported to South Los Angeles Sheriff's Station.

The victim was treated by paramedics for minor injuries.

"The deputies and detective did an outstanding job taking this violent criminal off the streets of Lawndale," said Lt. John Hocking.

McCraw was charged with one count of robbery. He is also being held without bail on a probation violation.
